I have done many 5Ks in the past few years, but this one was definitely different from any other. I have to give a big shout out to several people who made this one a success: Mary Ferguson from Mary Ferguson Face Painting, Keri and Nancy for coming and cheering us on and taking pictures, and of course the rest of the group that made up "Static Energy," Dawn, Deb, and Fran without whom this would not have been near as much fun.
Electric Run is touted as the Nation's
Premier Nighttime 5k run/walk experience, where the participants are
an integrated part of the show, and it did not fail to deliver. It
featured immersive "Lands" of light and sound that
transported the participant into an electric wonderland. Electric
Run, while was definitely more a younger persons event, transported
the mind, body and soul to a new world in a healthy way. Participants
were encouraged to join in on the art by lighting up (and this was
not the only 'lighting up' going on if you know what I mean) with
glow sticks, LEDs, and anything else their imagination could conjure
up.
We had fun in a different world!!
Along the 5k route music pumped and lights danced creating an
electric wonderland that kept us energized and moving to the beat.
There were people running, walking, and dancing through distinct
lands with lights and music custom mixed to match the mood of the
lighting elements.
We were creative, smiled, laughed,
and left dull at home. It was the collective light and creativity of
the thousands of participants (from what I hear, more than 10,000
people were there and I believe it) that brought this event to life!
We came to have fun and experience something magical and different.
We looked the part! We were bright-colored, blinking, shining,
glowing, and looking like something from another planet, and it was
perfect!
Electric Run was 3.1 miles of
neon-lit tracks and DJs that blasted music all along the course.
Plus, we were encouraged to rock neon clothing and bright face paint
to get us pumped up and in the spirit. I can honestly say that we
were they only participants that had really cool face paint. For a
brief period of time, I knew what it felt like to be a celebrity. We
had complete strangers coming up and asking to take our picture and
even people who wanted their pictures taken with us. I think I can
speak for all involved, we had a BLAST!
